Modular Apart Hotel Well Under Way in Hammersmith
Elements Europe’s off-site and on-site teams have begun work simultaneously at the 6-storey apart-hotel in Hammersmith.
Sheet pilling has commenced on-site and the off-site construction of the 89 Room Modules has also started in the factory.
“The fact that we are able to start with the ground works at the same time as we are manufacturing the Room Modules proves how effective modular construction really is” Commented Paul Chillman Project Manager.
“If we were solely using traditional construction methods on this scheme we wouldn’t even be thinking about completing the fully finished rooms including all fixtures and fittings until much later down the line.” Added Chillman.
Elements Europe is providing a true turnkey solution acting as both the main contractor and off-site manufacturer at the Central London scheme.
The 89 bedroom apart-hotel is set to be complete in just 40 weeks which is around 30% faster than traditional construction.
Simon Underwood Presents at Commercial Innovation Conference
Elements Europe’s Managing Director Simon Underwood spoke last week at the Commercial Innovation Conference in Antwerp.
The conference saw the top management of the Siniat and Promat Companies and their partners from Europe and Latin America gather to exchange and discuss insights on modular construction.
“Modular construction is a hot topic in the construction industry right now and we have been in the off-site industry since 2005 so we fully understand its benefits and the best methods of implementation” commented Simon Underwood, Managing Director at Elements Europe.
“I have had experience in both the traditional and modular construction industry so I fully understand the integration between the two” Added Underwood.
Modular construction is a growing industry all over the world and the UK is no exception. Labour shortages, higher costs of construction and long build programmes has meant that offsite construction has thrived.
Elements Europe has been delivering modular projects for the hotel, residential, education, defense, healthcare and private rented sector since 2005.
Private Rented Sector Install Completed Ten Days Ahead of Schedule
Elements Europe has manufactured, delivered and installed 154 Room Modules ten days ahead of schedule.
The seven storey PRS residential development is ideally located within walking distance to Central Manchester University hospital and Royal Manchester Children’s hospital.
Modular Construction allows for a faster overall construction time with all processes completed under one roof.
“We carefully control the manufacturing process from steel rolling though to the final cleaning of the completed module and quality sign off allowing us to manufacture the rooms much faster than is possible within a traditional construction environment” commented Kevin Arthur, Director at Elements Europe.
“We have been able to deliver the Room Modules for Hathersage Road 10 days ahead of schedule due to meticulous planning, preparation and most importantly the construction of a prototype prior to installation” Added Arthur.
Three types of Room Modules have been manufactured ranging from 28m sq to 31m sq, all have been designed to offer practical open plan living with a high end finish to ensure the apartments are attractive to the audience the development will target.
Elements Europe has established a complete off-site solution for its clients with the manufacture of all Room Modules, stair cores, plant rooms, reception areas, entrance halls and recycling rooms, thus further reducing the construction time and therefore increasing return on investment for the clients. At Hathersage Road, the flat roof structure was also manufactured offsite before being installed once all modules where positioned.
Elements Europe Awarded Silver Certificate at Recofloor 2016
Elements Europe has been awarded a silver certificate at the 2016 Recofloor Awards hosted at Manchester’s Old Trafford Centre.
The fifth annual awards event will see Elements Europe awarded a silver certificate for the amount of recycling that is conducted within the factory instead of being sent to landfill.
“We take recycling and waste management very seriously ensuring that we segregate the waste correctly as well as use recycled product” commented Glen Davies Procurement Manager at Elements Europe.
“We are incredibly committed to continually improving our recycling methods” added Davies.
Off-site construction is known to produce less waste than traditional methods of construction, within a factory environment waste can be stringently controlled and segregated for recycling.
At Elements Europe a great deal of time and resource is invested in waste management training and education.
A Modular Win for Hammersmith Apart-hotel
Elements Europe has been awarded the contract to construct a 6 storey apart-hotel in the heart of Central London.
The scheme will see Elements Europe deliver a full turnkey solution, acting as both the main contractor and off-site manufacturer delivering 89 hotel Room Modules behind a traditionally designed facade.
The design and procurement teams at Elements Europe will work closely with the Client, Ace Zone Holdings Ltd, a subsidiary of Heeton Holdings Ltd, to achieve the high specification, luxury studio style bedroom design they desire.
“Our task is to obtain the aesthetic element of the design the client wishes to achieve whilst ensuring it is suitable for modular construction. The focus on building a substantial part of the building offsite in our production facility in Telford will reduce the local environmental impact, create a safer environment, speed up the overall project delivery and improve quality at a time when the London construction market is struggling to resource traditionally delivered schemes” commented Managing Director Simon Underwood who joined Elements Europe from Mace.
Works on-site will see Elements Europe excavate and construct a basement which will include new piling, and the laying of a raft foundation whilst at the same time progressing with the offsite construction of modular rooms.
