Dolwyddelan, Affordable Housing Project

The Client

Established in 1974, Cymdeithas Tai Clwyd is a North Wales charitable Housing Association. Tai Clwyd provides rental housing to people in housing need with an emphasis on young families and elderly people.

Tai Clwyd approached Elements Europe Ltd after learning about Ty Unnos Modular, a sustainable residential housing system manufactured off-site from indigenous UK spruce timber.

Project Description: Modular Housing Solution

Cymdeithas Tai Clwyd owned the 1-acre former forestry site overlooking the valley in Dolwyddelan and earmarked it for affordable housing. With no new housing developed in the village for over 40 years the demand for local needs housing was evident. Planning was granted for two pairs of semi-detached houses, these three bedrooms homes each totalled 934 sq ft each.

Elements Europe’s sister company, Pickstock Construction, was appointed as the main contractor and undertook the traditional elements of the construction work. These included site strip, the formation of plateaus, foundation, external building cladding, roofs and external landscaping.

The homes were constructed using the Elements Europe Ty Unnos Modular housing system. They were delivered to Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, promoting high levels of energy efficiency for the user.
